Did You Know That You Should Only Wash Your Jeans a Certain Number of Times?
We all love wearing pants and jeans, especially the ones that magically make us appear taller or slimmer! But did you know that you should only wash that ubiquitous pair of yours for a specific number of times?
Science says that jeans should be washed every four to six days from the day you wore them fresh from the laundry.
However, Levi jeans CEO Chip Bergh say that machine washing is “completely unnecessary.”
So who’s telling the truth?

It’s probably somewhere in the middle of those two facts. It was said that after one time of wearing your jeans, they are immediately covered with microbes--including bacteria, skin cells, your natural oils, and other environmental factors.
Don’t fret just yet because these microbes are really harmless, according to them. But the smell is another story.
Bergh claims that if your jeans get really dirty, then you should wash them (duh!). Here’s the thing though--it might not be enough to thoroughly clean it.
This is because denim is not a delicate fabric and such, should be worn “into the ground, and the cleaned, and then pummeled again, until it’s so faded and hole-hilled they need to be replaced.”
Sounds harsh?
Technically, it really only means to “scrub.” Scrub it hard enough that actual microbes and other stuff come off.
But when you do opt to not wash your jeans, its denim fabric weave might change. What does that mean?
When you wear them, eventually, they start to become more stretchy and looser. Over time, this might make the fabric more prone to breakage (gasp!).
But Bergh’s initial reason for not washing the jeans is because he wants to conserve the water. It may help the environment, but it might not help you.
The real deal here is, you should wash your jeans once they smell, or when you strongly suspect that they smell funky.
Washing really depends on how much you sweat, how much you really wear them in a week, and how dirty your environment is--that’s around once every two to six months, in estimation.
We strongly suggest that you wash your jeans maybe around twice a week if you regularly go out, and then some. You don’t have to wash them every day but you don’t want them to smell or feel “loose” enough either.
Go ahead; don’t feel gross or icky wearing those jeans about three to four times in a row. It’s not that bad, really.
What do you think about this? Do you have any other suggestions on how you should take care of your jeans?
